Is Dental treatment too expensive ?

Dental treatment – It’s too expensive!

How many times have you said this when your dentist’s told you you need a filling?
How many times have you heard your family or friends saying that?

But is this really the case? Is dental treatment too expensive ?

How many times do you go to your dental appointment with the hope your dentist will say it’s all ok and you don’t need anything done? And yes, if you do take care of your teeth well and make sure your oral hygiene is spot on you are very likely to hear this good news. However if your brushing is not that great and you do get frequent tartar build up and bleeding gums there is a likelihood you will develop cavities and need an occasional filling or even a crown.
Things can get worse if you need to lose the tooth and you have to start thinking about the cost of replacing the tooth which will vary depending on the solution you choose.

But let’s see if dental treatment is really as expensive as you may think.

I am gonna use  the filling as an example.
The average cost of a white filling would depend on the area needing to be filled, anything between £100- £200.
Do you feel it’s lots of money and you are finding it hard to justify paying £150 for a filling?  You might if you think about that as spending it in one day but is it really a one day spending?  Remember you use your tooth every single day- every time you eat, smile, talk ect.

Let’s say this filling will last 5 years . That means it actually costs you £30 per year or just £2.5 a month !

Let’s say the same filling will last 10 years. That means your yearly cost of having a healthy tooth and not having toothache costs you only £15 a year!
Would you rather have a toothache then spend £1.25 -£2.50 a month?

Does it seem now like maybe not a bad deal after all?

But lets look at that “expensive ” filling from another perspective.
You are a lady who likes to take care of herself, are you?
Popping to the hairdresser or beautician once in a while is usually on the cards. You get your colour and cut 3 times a year to hide that grey hair appearing here or there or you just fancy a freshen up of the colour. You’re gonna spent on average £50- £100 per visit depending on the salon. That takes you right up to £150 – £300 a year for your hair only , no nails, no eyebows, no facial treatments etc.

Did you notice that you have spend the cost of your filling lasting 5 years in just a year? Did you know you spend 5 times more on your hair then your tooth?!

But ” I don’t go to the hairdresser for cut and colour”…

Aaaa I see you are not a woman and your haircut is only £10. Hmmm …. How is your Sky Sports going. How much is it every month? £25 … or more?!

Aaa… you don’t have Sky Sports. Yes I understand. By the way how much did you pay for this pack of cigarettes ? How long will it last you? Hmm

It’s easy to judge and say “It’s too expensive, I can’t afford it!”
But next time before you say that dental treatment is too expensive put it into perspective first and see that you are actually getting amazing value for money and more importantly no toothache!
