The Dentist

Sitting, watching “The Dentist” on ITV tonight.  Shocking is the word which comes to mind.

Do people really think its ok to have rotten teeth?

It is a well known fact that Brits are known in the world for having bad teeth. Watching a direct action from Manchester Dental Hospital makes me think no wonder they have such a reputation. This documentary proves it is all true.

How on earth is it supposed to change any time soon if parents are not bothered by kids diet, lack of toothbrushing and kids rotten teeth which are ending up with multiple extractions.

“I can’t stop him eating toffees or he trashes the house”

Is actually beyond belief.

Are parents really so badly educated in dental health? Are they really powerless when it comes their kids or its just easy excuse so they don’t feel guilty.

What kind of parent feels it is ok for kids to have rotten teeth?

And No, THERE IS NO Excuse !

It is your responsibility as a parent to watch what kids eat, how many sweeties and what kind they have. It is also your responsibility to brush their teeth!

A 4 year old will NEVER ever brush his/her teeth well. They just simply don’t have a skills to do so. It’s all ok to allow kids to brush their own teeth, to create a good oral hygiene habits but it is your job as a parent to check how its done, and do it all over again if not done correctly.

Reality is, kids manual skills are somehow limited and for as long as their handwriting is not really good their oral hygiene habits are not that good either.

And what if the parents are not brushing their teeth either? It’s not manual skills their lacking. Majority of the cases it’s just laziness.

Simply ask yourself a question.

Are your teeth fine?

yes ? so why don’t you care about your kids teeth?

no? So do something about it!

How many parents really believe its ok for kids to have rotten teeth as they are just a baby teeth so loss of them is not an issue.

Is it really not?

Leaving aside all medical, growth and future orthodontics factors ask yourself a question:

– would you like to have multiple teeth taken out in one go?

– would you like a general anaesthetic yourself ? Are you not afraid of the risks which comes with it?

– how do you feel about painful, swollen, bleeding and bruised mouth after a surgery ?

– would you like to have all your teeth pulled out?

– would you like to meet friends or go to a restaurant without teeth?

– would you like your kids to be bullied at school for not having teeth?

If you answer No to at least one of them, look at you kids, get a grip and get them to the dentist. It might be a chance those teeth can be saved !

and Stop blaming everyone else but yourself  for your kids rotten teeth !
